Massage Therapist Exam Prep Podcast

Massage Therapist Exam Prep Podcast

The following are the podcasts we have created to help you prepare for your massage therapist classes and especially the national massage therapist exam, the MBLEx, you see referenced throughout the site.  We have also included a transcript below each podcast. However, we have hidden them with the “transcript” button you see just below the audio player. These are true spoilers, as they contain the answers, so use the transcript as a study aid only after working through the audio podcast itself!  The test preparation won’t be nearly as effective if you just skip to the answer sheet.  Note that we will be adding more exam prep podcasts so be sure to subscribe in your favorite podcast player and bookmark this page as well.  Good luck!

Welcome to today’s Massage Therapist Training Headquarters course and exam prep audio podcast.  The format today is a definition, followed by your lifeline, multiple choices in case you didn’t come up with an answer, then the correct solution.  Lets get started.

Number One: What is the term for “having or experiencing a rapid onset and short but severe course”?

Is it anxiety, chronic, or acute?

The correct term is acute. Acute means having or experiencing a rapid onset and short but severe course.

Number Two: What method is being described? Isolate the target muscle in passive contraction. Have the client contract the antagonist group. Have the client relax and then lengthen the target muscles.

Is it effleurage, reciprocal inhibition, or osteokenematic movement?

The correct term is reciprocal inhibition. In reciprocal inhibition, we isolate the target muscle in passive contraction, have the client contract the antagonist group, and then have the client relax and lengthen the target muscles.

Number three is a short one:

What does the prefix ecto mean? That’s E – C – T – O.

Is it A. outer or outside, B. against or opposite, or C. away from?

The correct answer is that the prefix ecto means outer or outside.

Number four: What is the term for the external therapeutic use of water and complementary agents like soaps or salts?

Is it vasodilation, hydrotherapy, or Diaforesis?

The correct answer is hydrotherapy is the external therapeutic use of water and complementary agents like soaps or salts.

And finally, number five:

It’s a tough one, but you’ve got a fifty fifty chance. What is the origin of the Brachialis?

Is it the distal anterior humeral shaft, or is it the ulnar tuberocity?

The origin of the Brachialis is the distal anterior humeral shaft. For your information the ulnar tuberocity is the insertion of the Brachialis.

Good Job! That completes today’s massage therapist exam prep. For more audio, be sure to subscribe to this podcast and visit the Massage Therapist Training Headquarters website for all the information you need about becoming a massage therapist.
