Massage Therapist Requirements in Nebraska

In order to become a licensed massage therapist in the State of Nebraska, you must:

  • Be at least 19 years old (higher than most other states)
  • Document your citizenship, lawful permanent residence, and/or immigration status
  • Provide evidence of a passing score on the MBLEx or NCBTMB exams
  • Complete a 1,000-hour massage therapist training course including:

1. 100 hours of anatomy;

2. 100 hours of health service management;

3. 100 hours of hydrotherapy;

4. 100 hours of hygiene and practical demonstration;

5. 100 hours of massage;

6. 100 hours of pathology; and

7. 100 hours of physiology.

After you complete a 1,000-hour training program, you then can fill out an application to become a therapist. You must mail in the application to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health – Licensure Unit, along with a cashier’s check or money order for $110 The form can be found here.

In addition, original transcripts from the massage therapy school where training was completed must be sent directly to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health – Licensure Unit.

Following licensure, note that all massage therapists must complete at least 24 hours of continuing education every two years. Failure to complete these hours results in a refusal to renew your massage therapist license by the department.
