Massage Therapist Requirements in Ohio
In order to become a licensed massage therapist in the State of Ohio, you must:
- Provide evidence of a passing score on the MBLEx exam
- Have a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Complete both a State of Ohio and FBI criminal background check
- Provide a passport photo
- Obtain two certificates of recommendation
- Complete a 750-hour massage therapist training course
After you complete a 750-hour training program, you then can fill out an application to become a massage therapist. You must mail in the application to the State Medical Board of Ohio, along with a check or money order for $150. The form can be found here.
In addition, original transcripts from the massage therapy school where training was completed must be sent directly to the State Medical Board of Ohio.
Note that Ohio now requires independent massage therapists also obtain a vendor’s license through the county auditor’s office or a transient vendor’s license through the Department of Taxation, each costing $25.00.
At this time, the State Medical Board of Ohio does not require continuing education to complete recertification.
